Notices Issued Against Levy Of Sales Tax On POL Products
LAHORE: Justice Ayesha A Malik of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Tuesday issued notices to the federal government, Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and other departments concerned on a petition challenging levy of sales tax on petroleum products without the beavers petroleum equipmentmpany 009 approval of the cabinet.
The court sought replies from the federal government and other respondents until September 22.
Counsel for petitioner Muhammad Azhar Siddique submitted that the government on July 31, 2017 increased prices of petroleum products in an illegal beavers petroleum equipmentmpany 009 and unconstitutional manner. He pointed out that the prices were increased by levying taxes as much as 40 percent without the approval of the cabinet, which was not intact following the beavers petroleum equipmentmpany 009 disqualification of Nawaz Sharif.
He said that the government had made an announcement that prices would remain unchanged but imposed 6.5 percent and 3 percent sales tax on high speed diesel and petrol, respectively. He submitted that the government could not levy sale taxes greater than 17 percent in any circumstances.
